Morse code flashlight and screen blinker

Turn a message into timed light pulses on a full-screen white flash. Optional vibration mirrors the pattern on phones that support it. Camera LED torch access is best-effort and often blocked on the open web — screen flash is the reliable path.

Photosensitive warning: rapid flashes can bother some people. Keep Stop visible. Don't aim bright pulses at drivers or aircraft — practice only.

Type a message, then Flash. Screen blink is the reliable path.

When to use

Practicing visual signals; silent environments; demoing SOS light pattern; accessibility-style drills without sound; quiet classroom demos.

When not

Don’t point bright flashes at drivers or aircraft. Don’t treat this as certified maritime visual signaling training. Don’t strobe at people who didn’t consent.

Assumptions

Primary output = fullscreen screen flash; vibrate via navigator.vibrate when present; real LED torch only if the browser/device allows. Respects prefers-reduced-motion by slowing pulses.

Examples

Input

Preset SOS · fullscreen · slow WPM

Result

Clear short/long blinks in a dark room

Safe practice only — not a distress procedure.

Input

Text HI · 10 WPM

Result

Watch letter gaps vs element gaps

Input

Vibration on (where supported)

Result

Feel the same on/off schedule without looking

How it works

  1. Enter text or use the SOS preset.
  2. Set WPM (slower is clearer for light — letter gaps need room).
  3. Press Flash — Stop cuts the sequence immediately.

Encode text → on/off schedule at WPM → toggle fullscreen brightness / vibration bursts

Gotchas

  • iOS Safari may ignore or limit vibration and torch — use screen flash.
  • Ambient light sensors and auto-brightness can make pulses look uneven.
  • Epilepsy / photosensitive users: warn before rapid flash; keep Stop obvious.
  • Camera LED torch is best-effort on the open web; don’t assume every phone exposes it.

Why screen flash, not torch LED

Camera LED APIs are inconsistent and often blocked on the open web. A bright on-page stage is the reliable path across phones and laptops. Vibration mirrors the schedule when navigator.vibrate exists — iOS may ignore it.

Photosensitivity & manners

  • Read the warning; keep Stop visible.
  • We slow pulses when prefers-reduced-motion is set.
  • Never aim flashes at drivers, aircraft, or people who did not consent.
  • Practice only — not certified visual distress training.

Quiet path

Audience hub: for/visual. Sound twin: audio translator. SOS helper: SOS.
